DENVER, N.C. — Cancer for College is bringing its inaugural Classy Golf Classic Carolinas to Verdict Ridge Golf and Country Club in Denver on Monday, Oct. 26, with a Game Day for Good tournament aimed at scholarships and medical debt relief for cancer survivors.

The Charlotte-area announcement said the event will raise money for need-based college scholarships, educational experiences and medical debt relief for cancer survivors pursuing higher education. Cancer for College has awarded nearly 250 scholarships totaling more than $1 million to survivors from or attending school in the Carolinas.

Player check-in begins at 10:30 a.m., with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Playing and sponsorship opportunities are still available through the organization website.

Cancer for College describes itself as a national provider of college scholarships, medical debt relief and educational experiences for cancer survivors, saying it has provided more than 2,000 scholarships totaling $9 million nationwide and that more than 98 percent of its scholars graduate. Since 1993 the group has focused on need-based scholarships and educational experiences, expanding into medical debt relief in 2023.

Charlotte health care includes Levine Cancer Institute among specialty facilities serving survivors in the market, and local players and sponsors are being recruited for the Denver tournament that sits just northwest of Charlotte in Lincoln County. Organizers are billing the classic as a Carolinas launch for the charity golf series.
