Discussion among parents about school safety

News Summary

A parent was arrested for allegedly assaulting two school officials at Randolph Middle School after a confrontation regarding her daughter’s involvement in a fight. Mariah Hector is accused of pushing the principal into a wall and attempting to choke the assistant superintendent. The incident led to a temporary lockdown at the school, and Hector faces multiple charges. Meanwhile, Principal Jennifer Schroeder has been suspended with pay, as discussions on school safety and administrative practices come to the forefront.

Charlotte, NC – A parent has been arrested following a violent incident that occurred at Randolph Middle School on May 5, where she is accused of assaulting two school officials. Mariah Hector, aged 33, faces serious charges for allegedly attacking Principal Jennifer Schroeder and area Assistant Superintendent Jennifer Dean during a confrontation related to her daughter’s involvement in a fight.

The confrontation unfolded after Hector arrived at the school to discuss her daughter’s altercation. Following a contentious discussion with school staff, Hector was asked to leave the premises. Instead of complying, she allegedly physically confronted the officials. Reports state that she pushed Principal Schroeder into a wall and attempted to choke Assistant Superintendent Dean by grabbing her neck. Although Dean did not lose consciousness, she experienced difficulty breathing and showed visible injuries on her neck as a result of the attack.

The disturbance triggered a temporary lockdown at Randolph Middle School, ensuring the safety of other students and staff during the incident. Hector has since been charged with two counts of assault on a school employee and second-degree trespassing. After her arrest, she was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 21 for her initial hearing.

In an unexpected development, another individual, identified as 20-year-old Trinity Nixon, faced separate charges of second-degree trespassing. Nixon allegedly entered the school premises after being instructed not to do so and reportedly became disruptive by yelling and cursing at school officials.

In light of these events, Principal Jennifer Schroeder has been suspended with pay as of May 20. The school district has not disclosed the specific reason for her suspension, citing personnel privacy regulations. Nevertheless, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) has reassured families that despite this leadership change, administrative operations will continue functioning normally at the school.

This incident is not isolated within the district; it follows another administrative action where Ardrey Kell High School Principal Jamie Brooks was also suspended in May. CMS has yet to provide further comments on the May 5 incident involving Hector and the circumstances surrounding Principal Schroeder’s suspension.

The community remains on alert as discussions surrounding safety and administrative practices in schools become increasingly essential. The actions taken by the school administration and local law enforcement aim to ensure the safety of students and staff within the education environment, emphasizing the need for a collaborative approach in addressing conflicts that may arise in schools.
