Charlotte Families Join Forces to Aid Children's Home Purchases Amid Rising Housing Costs

Charlotte Families Step Up to Help Their Kids Buy Homes

In the vibrant city of Charlotte, parents are increasingly opening their wallets to help their kids settle down in this booming housing market. As prices continue to climb, many young homebuyers find themselves relying on family support more than ever before.

Cash is King for Down Payments

According to the latest research, about 26% of younger homebuyers have used financial help from family members for their down payments—a noticeable jump from 23% the previous year. The rising cost of living and housing prices have made it tough for many younger folks to purchase their own homes without a little help from their parents.

Take the case of one local parent, MaryLu Cinque, who shared her experience with having supported all three of her children in buying their first homes. “We were fortunate enough to contribute to all three kids’ first home down payment,” MaryLu explains. “We are Boomers, and I think this is a more common thing for our generation. I don’t have much hope for future generations to have such disposable income.”

The Numbers Speak for Themselves

So, just how much does it cost to get into a house in Charlotte? Well, Realtor.com has some eye-opening stats. The median down payment on a home in the area hovers around a whopping $40,942. That’s a significant chunk of change, especially for those just starting out in their careers or looking to transition to homeownership.
