News Summary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating two fatal shootings that occurred within hours of each other on Saturday night. The first shooting took place around midnight on Broken Pine Lane, resulting in one death, followed by another shooting on North Graham Street at around 2 a.m. Both incidents highlight growing concerns regarding gun violence in the area. Authorities are urging the public to provide any information to help solve these cases. An arrest related to a previous triple shooting has also been made, raising the urgency of community involvement.

Charlotte, N.C. – Investigators are currently examining two fatal shootings that occurred just hours apart on Saturday night. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is seeking assistance from the public as they work to solve these violent crimes.

The first shooting was reported around midnight on Broken Pine Lane, near Prosperity Church Road. Officers arrived on the scene to find an individual suffering from a gunshot wound; that person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second incident took place shortly before 2 a.m. at the intersection of North Graham Street and Craighead Road. Again, police found another shooting victim in a vehicle, who tragically also succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Ongoing investigations into both incidents aim to uncover the circumstances surrounding these deaths.

In light of the recent violence, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have encouraged anyone with information regarding these shootings to come forward. Tips can be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 704-334-1600, or through the police department directly at 704-432-8477.

These two fatalities follow a series of shootings in the area, including a triple shooting that occurred in north Charlotte on Friday, May 23, 2025. During that incident, which took place just before 5:30 p.m. on Stroud Park Court, three individuals sustained injuries. Emergency Medical Services transported two victims to a local hospital, while a third individual made their way to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the ankle.

One of the victims, 16-year-old Jamariyee Dixon, ultimately died from his injuries on May 27. Authorities quickly identified a suspect in the case, 20-year-old Marion McKnight, through surveillance video that captured him firing a weapon at multiple individuals. Following the evidence, police arrested McKnight in the early morning hours on Saturday. He now faces charges of murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder, with a bond set at $1 million for the attempted murder charges and no bond for the murder charge.

Additionally, a separate instance of gun violence led to charges against 24-year-old Thomas Cartee III, who was arrested for the shooting of 25-year-old Jahlen McDonald early Saturday morning. This shooting occurred on Broken Pine Lane, the same location as the earlier fatality, where McDonald was also pronounced dead at the scene.

As investigations progress, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has stated that further details will be released to the public. Authorities remain committed to resolving these incidents and urge the community to play a role in helping to reduce violence in the area.

These back-to-back incidents highlight ongoing concerns surrounding gun violence in Charlotte, prompting the police to actively seek out information as they work to hold those responsible accountable.
