The attack, involving a robbery, resulted in McBeath’s death, raising safety concerns at the transit hub. Authorities report the suspects, Sierra Guzman and Ricky Miller, face serious charges, while the police continue to investigate the incident and its implications for public safety.

Charlotte – Two suspects have been charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 21-year-old man at the Charlotte Transit Center. The victim, identified as Leashan McBeath, was found with multiple stab wounds on the 300 block of East Trade Street on the evening of March 16. He succumbed to his injuries after being transported to the hospital.

The suspects, 20-year-old Sierra Guzman and 19-year-old Ricky Miller, are facing serious charges including first-degree murder, armed robbery, and conspiracy. Guzman has been transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, while Miller remains in custody on unrelated charges in Union County and is expected to be extradited to Mecklenburg County shortly.

A police report indicates that McBeath was attacked by three individuals who were not known to him. They used knives to rob him, taking approximately $200 in cash and marijuana from the victim. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) has clarified that this homicide does not appear to be a random act of violence, and the investigation is ongoing.

The violence at the transit center raises alarms as this incident marks the second fatality at the location since December. On December 8, a 32-year-old man named Joshua Overton died following an altercation with security guards and civilians. Although this incident involving Overton was captured on bystander videos, CMPD and the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office determined that his death was justified, resulting in no charges being filed.

Authorities have not yet disclosed any details surrounding the circumstances leading up to McBeath’s stabbing, nor have they shared further information about the investigation. The department is urging anyone with information on the incident to come forward and contact their homicide unit.

When asked for comments regarding the safety at the transit center following these violent incidents, city and transit system leaders have not responded to inquiries. Mayor Vi Lyles was also unavailable for comment related to the safety concerns at this critical transportation hub.

This attack adds to growing concerns over violent incidents in public spaces, particularly transit centers. Investigators are looking into the broader implications for safety and security measures at these facilities. As the investigation continues, officials are emphasizing the importance of community involvement in reporting any relevant information to aid in the resolution of such violent acts.

McBeath’s family and friends are grappling with the loss, as the community comes to terms with the events that unfolded. Violence affecting young lives continues to be a pressing issue, prompting discussions on how to ensure safety within the community.

As the investigation progresses, residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities. The CMPD remains committed to solving the case and restoring a sense of security within the Charlotte area.
