Charlotte's Small Businesses Gear Up for Thriving Small Business Saturday

Charlotte’s Small Businesses Prepare for a Big Weekend!

Charlotte is buzzing as we approach one of the most exciting weekends of the year for local shops: Small Business Saturday! After the hustle and bustle of Black Friday, local retailers are brushing off the leftovers and priming their stores for an influx of eager shoppers wanting to support their neighborhoods.

What’s All the Fuss About?

This special day is more than just another shopping event. Small Business Saturday is a way for communities to come together and show love to their local shops. According to the Small Business Administration, last year saw a whopping $17 billion spent across the country on this day! That’s a clear sign that communities believe in supporting their neighbors.

A Peek Inside Local Stores

Channel 9’s Glenn Counts took a stroll around the Charlotte area and chatted with some inspiring entrepreneurs. One of whom is Teresa Hernandez, the proud owner of Purva Vida in the trendy NoDa district. She shared her passion for curating unique finds: “Handmade items from around the world—over 45 countries, all handmade, fair trade,” she said. Teresa emphasized the importance of staying true to her vision despite the challenges small businesses face. “I’ve seen ups and downs. You just kinda have to keep your vision of what you’re about.”

On the other side of the retail spectrum is Old News Vintage, a shop with a fresh take on clothing. The owner, Brennan Tarra, spoke about the love for fashion that keeps her going. “At the root of it, we all just love clothes, love the history of clothes, and the way clothes make each individual feel,” she explained. It’s a heartfelt reminder that behind every item for sale lies a story waiting to be told.

Why Support Local?

Every small purchase adds fuel to the local economy, leaving a lasting impact on the community. When you buy from a local business, you’re not just getting a product—you’re investing in your neighbors, supporting families, and allowing unique shops to thrive.

This Small Business Saturday, consider checking out the quaint stores around you. You might find the perfect gift—something that simply can’t be wrapped in a big-box store’s shiny packaging. From artisanal crafts to vintage treasures, the possibilities are endless, and the stories behind them are priceless.

Mark Your Calendars!

So, as Black Friday fades into memory, gear up for an unforgettable Saturday of shopping! Don’t just stop by; make a day of it! Explore, grab a coffee at a nearby café, and enjoy the unique atmosphere that only local businesses can offer. Who knows? You might even find that special something you’ve been searching for, all while dodging the crowded malls and long lines.

A Community Celebration

This weekend is all about community. Each purchase you make is a way of showing appreciation for those who dedicate their time and passion to making Charlotte a vibrant place. So grab your friends and family, hit the shops, and let’s make this Small Business Saturday unforgettable!
