Charlotte Preparers for 'Share the Warmth Day' to Support Struggling Families This Winter

Charlotte Unites for ‘Share the Warmth Day’

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The chill of winter is just around the corner, but the heart of the Queen City is warming up! Mayor Vi Lyles is stepping forward to declare December 12, 2024, as the sixth-annual “Share the Warmth Day” in Charlotte. This initiative is all about lending a helping hand to those in need, ensuring no neighbor has to shiver this winter.

What’s the Story Behind Share the Warmth?

Every year, as the temperatures dip, many local families struggle with rising energy bills. That’s where the Share the Warmth program comes in. This longstanding effort, launched by Piedmont Natural Gas, aims to provide emergency funds for individuals and families facing challenges in paying their energy expenses. It’s a crucial lifeline during these chilly months.

The way it works is quite simple! Piedmont customers have a chance to contribute to this valuable fund through the company’s Round Up program, where they can round up their monthly bills to the nearest dollar, with the extra change going directly toward this cause. Additionally, community donations and support from Piedmont itself ensure that funds are readily available for those in urgent need.

Why It Matters

As explained by Brian Weisker, the senior vice president of Piedmont Natural Gas, “This is a perfect opportunity to consider this easy way to aid those in our community struggling to make ends meet.” With many residents facing higher-than-usual energy costs during this season due to lower temperatures, the funds from Share the Warmth are a beacon of hope.

Mayor Lyles Steps Up

Mayor Lyles is determined to spread the word and encourage everyone, from Piedmont customers to the community at large, to get involved. “Charlotte-area residents should never have to worry about how they’ll stay warm during the winter months,” she stated. The proclamation of “Share the Warmth Day” not only heightens awareness about this essential cause but also emphasizes the collective effort needed to keep all residents warm and safe.

The Heart of the Community

The Share the Warmth funds are available all year long to assist anyone struggling with energy bills, no matter what type of energy source they rely on, whether it’s propane, electricity, or natural gas. The message is clear: no one should feel cold and alone in their home.

How Can You Help?

Getting involved in this beautiful initiative is easy! Whether you choose to round up your bill or make a direct contribution, every little bit helps. Think about the impact a few extra dollars can have — it’s a simple but significant way to support your community and ensure that everyone can enjoy a warm, cozy home this winter.

Join Mayor Lyles and Piedmont Natural Gas as they encourage all Charlotteans to come together for “Share the Warmth Day”. With your help, we can keep the spirit of community alive and shining brightly all winter long!
