During her time at university, she was an active member of the Delta Zeta Sorority.

Her career began as a Home Economics teacher in Salisbury, Maryland, where she taught for eight years. Cathy later transitioned into the medical field, attending Peninsula General Hospital in Salisbury to become a nurse.
