The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is a division of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) Mecklenburg County’s biggest law enforcement agency and the largest police department between Washington, D.C., and Atlanta. The Charlotte Metropolitan Police Department’s mission is to make Charlotte one of the safest big cities in the United States.

CMPD divisions

Improves the storm drainage system in our neighborhood to guarantee that stormwater runoff drains properly from roadways to streams, reducing flood risks and protecting the quality of surface waters.

Charlotte Water (previously Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utility Department or CMUD) is the largest water utility in the Carolinas, serving more than 954,644 consumers.​

City Attorney

On a wide range of problems, provides legal advice and counsel to the Mayor, City Council, City Manager, and other City officials and employees. In lawsuits brought by or against the City, including its officials and workers, the Office represents them.

​City Clerk

Provides individuals with services that connect them to their government and keeps track of government activity. These services include support to the Mayor and Council, records management and research, boards and commissions, and internal and external customer service.

Shapes locations and makes resources available to help Charlotte citizens and companies thrive. This work is done through the lens of Equitable Economic Development, which allows us to see and serve Charlotte’s increasingly diversified inhabitants, built environment, and industrial sectors in a unique way.

​Finance Department

Maintaining the City’s general ledger, billing and collecting utility payments, accounts payable and receivable, issuing bonds, risk management, financial reporting, and managing the City’s investment portfolio are all responsibilities of the Finance Department.
