MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Corvid Technologies plans to invest $95 million to expand its Mooresville campus and add 423 jobs in Iredell County, Governor Josh Stein announced Tuesday.
The employee-owned defense contractor will build an additional 400,000-square-foot manufacturing facility at its headquarters for engineering and manufacturing of vehicle launch systems. New roles are expected to include assemblers, electricians, engineers, production managers, technicians and testers, with an average annual salary of $81,550.
Corvid was founded in 2004 as a modeling and simulation firm and now specializes in digital engineering, precision manufacturing and mission systems. Company leaders said the campus has grown from 8,000 square feet of manufacturing space to 800,000 square feet in about two and a half years.
The state Economic Investment Committee approved a Job Development Investment Grant authorizing potential reimbursement of up to about $4.45 million over 12 years after agencies verify annual job and investment targets. North Carolina projects the expansion could grow the state economy by $1.7 billion over the grant term.
Stein said the project affirms confidence in North Carolina manufacturing and engineering workers. Corvid president and CEO David Robinson said the company is investing in people, facilities and capabilities to support long-term growth in the state.
Mooresville sits in the Charlotte metro Lake Norman corridor, and the announcement cast the project as a major Charlotte-area defense manufacturing expansion. Planned payroll from the new positions is nearly $34.5 million a year once hiring targets are met, according to state figures cited in coverage.
