CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Hoppin Charlotte, the self-serve brewery on Winnifred Street near South Church Street in Charlotte’s South End, said Wednesday it is preparing to shut down.

An Oct. 14 social post from the taproom said management is closing the doors without giving a final calendar date or a detailed reason. The business listed farewell-style events through Sunday, Oct. 18, calling that its last day of regular hours while it confirms when the lights go out for good.

Self-pour rooms have been part of South End’s brewery cluster as the district reinvented old rail warehouses into apartments, taprooms and offices along the Lynx Blue Line and South Boulevard. South End sits just south of Uptown, tied together by light rail and the Rail Trail, and adaptive-reuse projects made breweries a signature draw for the corridor’s fastest-growing residential blocks.

Losing a Winnifred Street taproom trims one more stop in a neighborhood where brewery row still anchors evening foot traffic from new apartment towers. Regulars looking for a last pour have through the weekend under the hours the shop posted, unless a later message extends the wind-down.

No sale, relocation or successor tenant has been announced. South End’s mix of warehouses-turned-taprooms and rising high-rises means vacant brewery space often turns over quickly, but Hoppin Charlotte has not said what comes next for the Winnifred Street suite.

For a district that ranks among Charlotte’s most walkable neighborhoods, every taproom closing changes the evening mix along the Rail Trail and South Boulevard. Neighbors and regulars will watch whether another brewery, restaurant or creative office fills the room once the self-pour taps go dark.
