CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person was shot early Saturday just outside Uptown Charlotte, and medics said the victim was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to first responders.
The shooting was reported sometime before 4:15 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, near the intersection of Frazier Avenue and West Trade Street, west of Uptown. It was not immediately clear what led up to the gunfire, and police had not publicly identified the victim or a suspect Saturday morning.
Medics rushed the wounded person to a local hospital. No arrests had been announced, and authorities had not released a motive.
The Frazier Avenue and West Trade Street corridor sits just west of Uptown Charlotte. CMPD Chief Estella D. Patterson department serves more than a million people across Mecklenburg County, and midyear city data released earlier in 2026 showed violent crime down 8 percent in the first half of the year compared with the same period a year earlier.
That same midyear snapshot recorded 2,569 violent crimes citywide in the first six months of 2026. Homicides did not follow the same downward pattern, with 40 homicides in the first half of 2026 compared with 39 in the first half of 2025, even as the department reported a 75 percent clearance rate by midyear.
Mayor Rob Harrington administration and city public-safety leaders have pointed to those midyear figures while urging residents to share tips after weekend violence. Anyone with information about the Saturday shooting was asked to contact CMPD detectives as the investigation remained open.
Police had not linked Saturday shooting to earlier violence in the same corridor and had not said whether the victim knew a suspect. Further updates were expected once detectives identify those involved and determine how the confrontation began.
