CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte is headed for unseasonably warm afternoons near the 90-degree mark before a strong cold front cools the weekend, according to local forecast coverage and the National Weather Service outlook for the Charlotte airport.
Highs in the upper 80s are expected the next few afternoons, pushing close to record levels for mid-October. Dry conditions should dominate most of the week, with only a stray shower chance Friday as the front arrives.
After the front, weekend highs are forecast only in the 60s Saturday and Sunday, with Sunday morning lows as chilly as the low 40s. Mountain communities could see frost with lows in the 30s, and breezy conditions are expected through the weekend.
The National Weather Service forecast for Charlotte/Douglas International Airport listed a Thursday high of 88 degrees under sunny skies and a Saturday high near 63 with clear overnight readings around 42. Unseasonable warmth across the Southeast has been flagged as capable of setting daily record highs for a few more days.
Next week, sunshine is expected to stick around with highs moderating back into the 70s closer to seasonal normals. Forecasters said they will keep updating as the front timing firms up.
Residents planning outdoor midweek activity should prepare for hot, dry afternoons, then a sharp cooldown for weekend games, church events and early morning errands across Mecklenburg County. Pack a light jacket for Saturday night events even if Thursday still feels like late summer in Charlotte.
