CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Seventeen Charlotte restaurants landed in the 2026 Michelin Guide American South, and the city’s only starred kitchen held on to its rating as several newcomers joined the list.
The guide was unveiled Wednesday night at a ceremony in Nashville. Its territory spans North and South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana, so Charlotte’s chefs were competing for attention with kitchens across much of the Southeast.
Counter-, the West Charlotte tasting-menu restaurant led by executive chef Sam Hart, kept its One Star, again the lone Charlotte restaurant at that level. Its themed menus change with the seasons and pair each course with music and art.
First-time Charlotte honorees were Albertine, Spaghett, L’Ostrica and The Story of Mi Cariño. Mi Cariño, a Latin restaurant in South End, was also given a Bib Gourmand, the guide’s nod to strong cooking at a fair price, and its chef, Hector Gonzalez-Mora, 34, received the 2026 Michelin Young Chef Award. Lang Van, the longtime Vietnamese favorite in east Charlotte, kept its Bib Gourmand. Michelin also retired its Green Star this year, a sustainability honor Counter- received last year.
Returning on the recommended list were Customshop, Ever Andalo, Haberdish, Hello, Sailor, Kindred, Little Mama’s, Omakase by Prime Fish, Prime Fish, Rada, Restaurant Constance and Supperland. Nearby Concord picked up a mention too: the guide honored Pump Social, which serves sandwiches out of a converted former gas station.
