ROCK HILL, S.C. — York Preparatory Academy in Rock Hill joins a statewide career-prep program on Thursday, when the South Carolina Public Charter School District formally names it the newest Workforce Center of Excellence.
District Superintendent Chris Neeley and school leaders plan a 10 a.m. ceremony at the York Prep field house, 1047 Golden Gate Court. Guests are asked to check in at the Student Union first. York Technical College officials will also honor students who earned the school’s new Ready to Work certification.
The charter district built the program to tie classroom work to local job needs. Schools that earn the label offer courses shaped by business and industry, hands-on learning with area employers, and routes to dual college credit, industry certifications or apprenticeships alongside a high school diploma.
The district also wants these centers placed near the state’s 16 technical colleges or on business and military sites. For York Prep, the title marks its push to send graduates out ready for college, a career or the military.
